One of the most ancient water craft, the coracle is surprisingly light, capable and easy to carry.  A wide range of skills will be learnt as we progress through the build: laminating timber to form the gunwale; weaving then steaming, bending and fixing timber strips; attaching and waterproofing the canvas covering.  The course will include an opportunity to try coracle paddling. SEWN BOARD BINDING C2047

Ask us about or request a place on this Course

The structure of the sewn board binding is associated with the advent and advancement of the codex format book in late antiquity.  This particular sewn board technique was designed by Garry Frost and has become one of my favourite versatile book structures.  Our aim is to reproduce the binding using the Coptic chain stitch and an ingenious board attachment along with various modern materials and fabrics to make a very satisfying, tactile and, most importantly, flat opening book structure.
