This workshop aims to introduce the basic tenets of Buddhism. During the day we explore the origin of Buddhism, its ethical foundation and Enlightenment – the goal of the Buddhist path. The course will include a variety of Buddhist meditative exercises. It can be taken in conjunction with the weekend course Meditation – to Quieten the Mind which starts this evening.

John will introduce you to a variety of meditative techniques and help you to understand the concepts underlying the practice. Sessions will include periods of seated practice using ordinary chairs. No special postures are required. Techniques and concepts will come mainly from the Buddhist tradition but no attempt will be made to promote any particular faith tradition – meditation is of universal relevance.

We shall spend the week exploring a different valley or area each day and covering some 8 miles taking in some of the lower tops. Walking will be on well trodden but sometimes rough paths but always at a leisurely pace allowing time for photographs and even the occasional tea shops! Level 1-2 walking.

Come and join us in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere looking at the basic moves, a simple choreography, a veil dance, costumes, history, rhythms and some of the different styles and ideas of the dance, also known as Belly Dance, Raqs Sharqi or Oriental Dance. No previous dance experience required, just a willingness to ‘have a go’ and a sense of humour!
