THE PHILOSOPHY AND LITERATURE OF HENRIK IBSEN

Tuesday 2 to Friday 5 April 2024

“A community is like a ship; everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm.” (An Enemy of the People) What is the relationship between the community and individual? Is one more important than the other? In this course led by philosophy and literature tutor Darren Harper, we discuss society, ethics, truth and life in the plays of Henrik Ibsen, one of the most influential playwrights in Western literature.

TRY FOR A DAY: BOTANICAL PAINTING

Saturday 6 April 2024 10am – 5pm

This informal and relaxed workshop is a gentle introduction to the delights of drawing from nature. Spend the morning building confidence while closely observing individual flower petals, leaves and berries and practising watercolour techniques. The afternoon is spent painting flowers and plants from the beautiful gardens here at Higham. Everyone welcome, no experience needed. All materials supplied.

CUMBRIAN TEXTILE ADVENTURES

Sunday 28 April to Wednesday 1 May 2024

This course, which combines site visits to an outdoor textile sculpture path and working studios alongside practical workshop sessions, should prove inspiring to those who enjoy textiles. Dianne will guide you through techniques that can transform a variety of recycled /sustainable materials into 3D textile work.
